Why Does My Circuit Breaker Keep Tripping With Nothing Plugged In?

A breaker can trip with nothing plugged in due to a wiring fault, a failing breaker, or a hardwired device on that circuit. Ground faults, moisture, or an upstream GFCI/AFCI can also trip it. If it trips again immediately, stop resetting it and call a licensed electrician in Lakeville.

Quick checks:

  • Press reset on GFCI outlets in bathrooms, garage, and outdoors.
  • Switch off all loads on the circuit, then reset the breaker once.
  • If you see heat, scorch marks, or hear buzzing, call.
